STUDIO ETIQUETTE & POLICIES

Studio membership etiquette

Studio membership etiquette

Studio membership etiquette

Members are expected to clean up their workstation and tools, and return them back on their shelves after they’re done.

Our staff will be happy to answer any general questions you might have about the equipment, tools, or the studio. However, memberships are a self-learning experience, so the staff will not be teaching or guiding members on the step-by-step process, and cannot be responsible for the members’ work.

Clay, plaster or glaze are strictly not allowed to be washed directly in the sink. Instead, members can wash their hands and tools in buckets filled with water, which they can then leave next to the sink and our staff will safely dispose of it.

Lab coats and aprons are provided at the studio, but members are welcome to use their own if they wish. Members are similarly welcome to bring along their own tools and materials.

Food and drinks are only allowed in the reception area and must not be brought near the studio’s working tables, equipment or materials.

Members are responsible for wedging, storing and reclaiming their own clay. Clay that belongs to membership packages may not be reclaimed in the studio’s general reclaim bucket or stored in the studio’s damp box.

Memberships may not be frozen. Any missed days or weeks during the time frame of the membership may not be compensated for.

Please do not touch or handle other people’s work, which includes green, bisque, or glaze ware.

Children between 5-8 years old must join with an adult (adult membership + child membership). We do not cater to children under 5 years old.

Please be mindful of others when taking photos of your work at the studio. Always ask for permission before taking photos of members or staff.

Firing services

Studio membership etiquette

Studio membership etiquette

The studio reserves the right to refuse to fire items that are cracked, broken, unstable, contain air pockets, at risk of breaking or do not fit the measurement limitations of the kiln.

Items to be fired must have a full name (not initials, can be first name only) clearly visible on the piece, whether stamped, carved, or written with underglaze.

Firing services must be paid for prior to firing and not after.

Items that are made up of multiple loose pieces (such as a jar and its lid) may be charged as one item for bisque firing (if stackable), but charged separately for glaze firing.

Members will be contacted once their pieces have been fired and ready for glazing or pick up. Any uncollected or unglazed items that have been left on the shelf for longer than 30 days may be disposed of without prior notice or compensation.

Members are expected to provide the label information of any clays and glazes that do not belong to the studio prior to firing. The studio may refuse to fire items without this essential information.

Members whose items break or crack while drying due to incorrect process or building may be reserve their paid firing service to be used for another piece and reclaimed within 2 weeks.

Items that break or crack during firing due to incorrect process or building will not be compensated for or refunded.

Items that break or get damaged due to staff error may be rebuilt and refired free of charge.

Members whose items cause damage to the kiln, kiln shelves, or any items around it during firing may be charged an additional damage fee.

Only authorized staff are allowed in the kiln room.

Firing at the studio runs on a schedule basis, so kiln firing services may require up to 2 weeks to be completed.

Items that have not been been cleaned thoroughly before glazing might be develop glaze defects after firing, which the studio will not be responsible for. Therefore, members are asked to thoroughly clean their bisqueware prior to glazing.

Items that have not been glazed properly may not be food safe.
